Promoting Teamwork

Incorporating the concept of teamwork in warmup and recovery creates an atmosphere of accountability and trust within the team that might not be established elsewhere. When an athlete is required to participate in a partner or group activity that helps the prevent injury for their teammates, you increase the value of that person. When the athletes know that they can help each other stay healthy and help the team perform better as a whole, the sense of pride and responsibility in individual roles goes up exponentially. It is important to verbalized this to the athletes as they are learning partner exercises and movements in order to really drive the point home; athletes who understand why they are doing something and how they can positively impact their team are more likely to be invested in the task at hand.
